The digital fitness marketing iceberg, only 10% is visible

Posted on 16-02-2016

The good part of the internet is that you can come across a lot of inspiration for your marketing ‘for free’.

Copying, typos included...!

Aernout Leezenberg, CEO Hidden Profits Marketing: ‘Many fitness entrepreneurs that use DIY-marketing are happy to copy others. We see a lot of our approach used by fitness clubs and studios that we don’t work for. It’s flattering because apparently, people see that our formula work. But it’s a shame too because I see a lot of mistakes being copied. One time, we even found a website hosting our text, including typo! Hilarious’.

Google penalizes copying

‘One thing that hardly any fitness entrepreneur knows,’ continues Leezenberg, ‘is the fact that Google penalizes websites that copy texts from others. By for instance giving this website a lower ranking. It depends on many factors because that’s how Google works. So copying 10% of a website’s strategy might result in a penalty from Google! That way, DIY-ing doesn’t only cost time, but might cost you a lot of money’.

Only 10% correct and a whopping 90% wrong!

‘The most important added value that we at Hidden Profits Marketing provide, is the sophisticated online strategy. The strategy ranges from extensive advertising strategies on, among others,, Google, Facebook and now even Instagram. And then through specific website page HTML techniques and a network of external landing pages, thank you pages, and hidden pages. Complemented by our online marketing and sales funnel approach with retargeting pixels and codes from social media and search engines. Rounded off with a sales strategy put together in consultation with experts. That optimizes the conversion from leads to paying members. All these ‘hidden’ elements of our online marketing deliver 90% of the results. So anyone who copies one of our ideas can only get 10% of the results. Not really worth the effort.’

Digital marketing is your aorta, your fitness club lifeline

Leezenberg concludes: ‘Look, each fitness entrepreneur decides their own approach. My best advice: let a professional take care of your online marketing. If well executed, the internet is, after all, your company’s lifeline. Which specialist should you go to? That’s up to everyone to decide for themselves. As long as you skip the DIY. Because that will cost you money. A lot of money’.

By now maybe you understand why the term ‘Hidden Profits’ reflects online marketing for fitness entrepreneurs so well…
