Benefit from the increasing group of yoga-searchers on Google

Posted on 03-05-2019

'Fitness' is a very popular and wordwide used search term on Google. But did you know that the search term 'yoga' is slowly catching up, and even seems to become more popular than fitness? A huge chance in Google if you have a yoga school or offer yoga at your fitness, PT studio or boutique club. In this blog you’ll find more info on how to use this chance wisely.

Advertising on Google based on the search term ‘yoga’

Do you advertise on Google? Then you probably do that based on a search term (unless you use this Google Ads remarketing technique, that could increase your click rate big time). When advertising based on a search term, it’s good to have insight in the search terms that your target group uses. You can easily discover those in Google Trends. Check out this example of the terms ‘yoga’ and ‘fitness’ (used worldwide from 2004 to 2019):

What is important for a successful Google ad?

The most important thing when you advertise on Google is: relevance. So when you advertise on a specific search term, your ad and landing page need to be a representation of that search term. Not only is this extremely important to Google, it also is to your website visitor. What do you think people are looking for when they type in: yoga classes? Yoga classes! Showing them an ad on pilates could generate some clicks, but it'll be less succesful than showing an ad that completely matches the search term.

NEW: specific ad set and landing page for the search term ‘yoga’

Our innovation team tested with an ad set and landing page that were specifically designed for the term ‘yoga’. Result: both Google and the yoga searchers seemed very satisfied: in tests with 5 clients, the average of monthly generated leads went up by 3 leads.

Yoga in comparison to other (of your) used search terms

So setting up an ad specifically for yoga is a good idea. Not convinced yet? Take a look at this screenshot from Google Trends. Next to catching up to ‘fitness’, 'yoga' is also having a big competition with 'gym' and risen far above 'pilates' and 'boutique club':

Why don’t you try to compare yoga to the search terms you normally (would) use in your Google Ads? Google Trends is free and very simple to use. Got any questions about advertising on Google? Just ask us online!
